Cooking Con Omi: A Taste of Puerto Rican Passion

In the realm of tantalizing flavors and culinary brilliance, there’s one name that’s been setting hearts and kitchens ablaze – Meet Omallys “Omi” Hopper, a Borucia food entrepreneur and content creator known for putting Puerto Rican cuisine on the map, one dish at a time. From the heart of her kitchen to becoming a semi-finalist on FOX’s cooking competition, “Next Level Chef” with Gordon Ramsey, Omi’s story is a testament to the power of food and how the pursuit of passion can transform your life. 

Her journey began during the COVID-19 lockdown. As the world was grappling with uncertainty, Omi found solace in her kitchen by cooking her family’s Puerto Rico dishes and sharing some of the recipes on Instagram. Little did she know, her videos would quickly gain traction. 

In one month, she’d gained over 10K+ followers and began branding herself as “Cooking Con Omi” via TikTok, in addition to Instagram and Facebook. By May 2022, Omi was invited to host a cooking segment on Univision’s morning show, “Despierta America”

Fast forward to the present, Omi finished as a semi-finalist on FOX Reality’s cooking competition “Next Level Chef” with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey, was honored as a “trailblazer” at the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC this past June, led the Puerto Rican Festival Chicago’s People’s Parade, and has garnered close to 1M followers across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. 

But Omi’s culinary adventure doesn’t just end with participating in TV competitions, receiving accolades, and uploading cooking videos — she’s now an entrepreneur. In addition to selling branded apparel and kitchen accessories, Omi has recently launched her new product, Sofrito Fresquecito – a cooking herb base commonly used in many Latin cuisines, prepared the way her abuela used to make it. 

Omi’s story is a reminder that, with passion and authenticity, we can transform our lives and inspire a movement that resonates far beyond the kitchen.
